MAIYA SS12

I did some modelling for MAIYA, a new fashion label by Designer Helen Stew a couple of weeks ago. I've never ever done modelling before, and look like I need a tan but the clothes I wore were beautiful!

Ethical fashion designer Helen has applied to show her collection during London Fashion Week this September for Esthetica, Spring/Summer 2012. She works with organic, fair trade and recycled materials but ethical fashion needn't be dowdy... MAIYA's gorgeous collection is really elegant with an edge!

Here are some photos of the collection taken by emerging photographer Eva Bartussek..

Hair fascinators

Hi, I have just started making hair fascinators out of vintage fabric and buttons. I sold a lovely headpiece today at the Gorseinon food festival and I think it looks fabulous on the lady who bought it from Heulwen Designs! :).
Here are some inspiring and gorgeous fascinators:

Gorseinon food festival

I had a great day at the Gorseinon Food Festival. It's in it's second year and this year was bigger and better than ever! It was organised by Mr William Sweetman along with a team of volunteers from the Gorseinon development trust and local businesses in the area including Shirley who runs Millie's Market and Sian Day who was also organising cooking demonstrations for the day. There were over 100 food and drink stalls and craft stalls plus lots of fantastic entertainment.  Heulwen Designs had a stall there and had a really good day!

Here are some reversible petal pin cushions that I made today.

I think they are so cute and useful too! I made these out of vintage fabric, felt and fabric covered buttons. I will be selling more of these on my Folksy shop and at craft fairs

The next craft fair I will be going to will be the Gorseinon Food Festival held on Saturday the 16th of April.

Book Swap

This weekend, 2nd &3rd of April at the National Waterfront Museum there is a book swap event, organised with Oxfam and the Environment Centre. It's a chance to swap any unwanted books for a new read - for free! The 'book' event inspired a drop-in Make and Mend workshop which was also at the Museum today.  We de-constructed old books and transformed them into photo frames, necklaces, envelopes etc....!

Every month there is a themed up-cycling workshop for adults where you can delve into baskets of forgotten bits and bobs and create something to be proud of.  Not only is it a fantastic way to help the environment, but its a lot of fun too! The next Make&Mend workshop at the museum is on the 7th of May and the theme is Plants & Flowers. The afternoon workshops are between 1:30pm-4pm and are £3 each, places are limited so  advance booking is required on (01792)638950

Here are some examples below of the photo frames I made today.

And there are so many more things you can do with old book pages like these flower corsages!
